Who is Namor? Black Panthers comic history: Wakanda Forevers antagonist

Prince Enamor (also called Sub-Mariner) is a monumentally important Marvel character that, until now, was largely confined to the comics page. Initially, a fixed element of the ages of gold and silver, Enamor survived the jump to the Bronze Age (and then the modern) and became a popular character in the Canon of Marvel Comics.

Now, with Enamor ready to debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, occasional MCU fans can wonder who he is and why his participation is so important. Fortunately, we have a guide for that, and it is also relatively free of spoilers, so you can even read it before going to theaters.

The beginnings of Enamor

For the majority, Enamor The Sub-Mariner first appeared in the comics in 1939. Bill Everett had created the character for the magazine for promoting 36 pages Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1, but the book never circulated. Instead, Enamor debuted at Marvel Comics #1, which also marked the launch of Timely Comics (Marvel’s predecessor). Next to Captain America and the Human Torch OG, Enamor was among Timely’s most popular characters.

The 1798 poem by English poet and literary critic Samuel Taylor Coleridge The Rime of the Ancient Mariner served as inspiration for Enamor. Coleridge’s work caused Everett to look for what he considered sophisticated nomenclature conventions; The writer and artist finally decided on Enamor, which as you will notice is Roman written backwards.

Is Enamor a friend or an enemy?

The answer to that depends on history and perspective from which that story is written. That said, Enamor is generally characterized as an antihero. It has been associated with both avengers and The Fantastic Four on numerous occasions throughout their long history, but has also fought against them in so many (if no more) instances. He is a complex guy who will always put his kingdom and his people first.

Comic

Many consider Enamor as the first antihero of comics; His tendency to cause problems to superheroes is as old as he, which gives us a clue of how he will probably be portrayed in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

What is Enamor’s role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever?

Judging by his advances and other promotional materials, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever seems to be putting Enamor (played by Enoch Huerta) in disagreement with Wakanda. This also traces totally; In comics, Enamor usually only attacks when he feels that his underwater kingdom is threatened.

Given what we know so far, Enamor will fight against Wakanda’s afflicted citizens for reasons that will be completely revealed in the film. If we are guided by the comics, it is likely that Enamor passes from villain to antihero when the credits of Ryan Cooler’s box office arrive.
